Attila the Stockbroker Returns to the Druid Inn Thursday 29th October 2015

Attila_handsThose of you who have been lucky enough to have seen Attila at the Druid (or elsewhere) will have no need of further explanation.  This was, as usual, a wonderful  evening.  Check out Attila’s Youtube Channel or his website

“Sharp-tongued, high energy, social surrealist rebel poet and songwriter. His themes are topical, his words hard-hitting, his politics unashamedly radical, but Attila will make you roar with laughter as well as seethe with anger…

Inspired by the spirit and ‘Do It Yourself’ ethos of punk rock, and above all by The Clash and their overtly radical, political stance, he started as a punk bass player in 1977 and took the name Attila the Stockbroker in 1980, blagging spots for his poems and songs in between bands at punk gigs. He quickly got a couple of John Peel radio sessions, a deal with London independent record label Cherry Red Records and before very long was on the front cover of Melody Maker…and he hasn’t looked back since!

He celebrated the 30th anniversary of his first gig with a sell out show  in 2010 at The Square in Harlow, where he did his very first gig, followed by a national tour… Attila has spent the last 30 years performing his work across the world at literary and music festivals, rock venues, arts centres, pubs, universities, schools, folk clubs and punk squats in the UK, Ireland, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the US, Euskadi, France, Norway, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Poland, Hungary – and more improbably in Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic and a hotel basement in Stalinist Albania. 24 countries in all!

Attila loves humour (wit, wickedness, satire, subversion) and hates ‘comedy’ (bland jokes about Seventies TV, adverts for undrinkable beer, endless moronic game shows, corporate gravy train spotting).”

More Awards From CAMRA - posted by Les

Saturday 14th September saw the Druid Inn being awarded Pub of Year for Mid and West Wales! Wow! This is some achievement for the landlord Lewis Johnston, his staff and the band of locals who make the Druid a great pub. The presentation took place in the late afternoon, and the assembled gathering enjoyed many pints of cask beer. A great time as usual at the Druid!!!

PUB OF THE YEAR!! AGAIN!! - posted by Les

As if  the “38 years in the guide” presentation wasn’t enough recognition for the Druid Inn, it has now won the CAMRA Ceredigion “Pub of the Year” again.  That’s two years in succession in 2008 and 2009 and a total of four times in recent years!  To celebrate this achievement there will be a presentation “ceremony” on April 6th and a mini beer festival at the pub with some very special real ales.  Don’t miss it!!!  It is nice to have an excuse for a little excess, although it has never stopped us before!!!  Well done Lewis!

Presentation late afternoon around 3.00pm
Music for the evening from 9 pm will be provided by the Shelleys plus support. See you there!

Druid Inn 38 Years in Good Beer Guide
Presentation to Lewis Johnson
This is not a cricket score but the number of continuous years that the Druid Inn in Goginan has been in the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) Good Beer Guide. There are few pubs in Wales or even in the rest of the UK that can match this record and so to mark this significant achievement, Bae Ceredigion CAMRA, the local CAMRA branch presented a certificate to Lewis Johnston, the current landlord of the Druid, on Saturday 12th January 2013. The presentation took place during the afternoon and all present sampled some beers from all over the UK in a Beer Festival that weekend.

Clearly, Lewis isn’t the only landlord who has contributed to this considerable achievement. Praise must also go to Reg and Jim, both sadly no longer with us, and John who is still very much a part of the community and major supporter of the Druid.
